On Ljubljana

I stayed at
Young Hotel Haunspergstrasse
Haunspergstrasse 27
5020 Salzburg

where I met Gerald Schachner

Yesterday at ljubljana, there was musical festival going on. I met a number of people 3 german girls, 3 GB guys and one Swedish. 3 Swiss took 8 days to cycle down also. Amazing. They are really lucky to have traveled far and wide. We even met a con artist.

Ljubljana was scary as the ticket inspector looked fierce, the train stations was unmarked, the announcement system didnt work. I even met the Austria Police. Almost became an illegal immigrant. But overall I like the town. It is a bit run down with a scary hostel. But at least the tourist information lady spoke excellent english and helped wonderfully. She was also extremely knowledgeable.

change of game plan...

just when to Hotel zum Hirschen to eat a pot of salzburg stockpot soup. 4EU for potato, beef, rice noodle mix with a veg.

though what got me was a waitress. She looks wonderful in the traditional Austrian clothing. I hold my urge to take a picture of her. I crease to take pictures of beautiful girls that I could never have a relationship with (though I should frame that picture of her, who knows, she might appreciate me for keeping her photos for 50 years later.) Salzburg is nice place, I feel much at home unlike innsbruck. There was a mammut raincoat for 80EU slashed from 160EU. It fitted me wonderfully. But then 80EU=171SGD? nana, I looked cool in it, but a raincoat(made in China, 100% nylon) that I hardly used. 171 is just too expensive for me. Before I could take a picture of it, another lady took it to try, and then then the mother who saw me trying on for so long took it for herself.

I even went to a turkish shop I think. The community here looks a bit run down, but I like it. went two erotic shop with one of them, a self service video shop, interesting what you can do with 10EU. The porn stuff here is a lot cheaper, in swiss a DVD is like 80CHF, here was like just 30EU.

Innsbruck was MPreis, Salzburg was Billa, some mama shop.

Salzburg by the way was the home of Mozart.

on Salzburg

haiz everything needs money. Good view are all under constructions.

Salzburg is really a tourist place.

Or basically the entire Europe is a huge theme park. Though I do like the living cost here, which is much cheaper I think than in Swiss.

first stop

I left on Friday, took a 6 hrs train across the alps into Austria. My first stop was at Innsbruck. I was overloaded and tired with the weight, scary.

I managed to find a campsite, tried walking the 4.3km but eventually give up. Feeling dejected and wanted to go back to Rapperswil. The bus system was a bit confusing, but once I got the hang of it with the 24hr bus ticket, it was ok.

Sat was spend randomly walking the town, stocking up on food. Sunday morning, the only thing that got me going was a hike up to Navis. A symbol with an owl, I like that place. Beautiful with the greener. Looks more like movie than reality.

We went up and ate, the flower juice was sweet and wonderful for 1.5EU. We came down and it started raining. I decided to stay till monday and took a train to salzburg. the train was crowded but fast reaching salzburg in 2hrs. Checked into a hostel and wash some of the equipments for 20.45EU.

Up time to visit the fortress of salzburg.

the importance of a house

I overloaded my bag, I couldnt carry nor fit all the stuff I need in one month in a huge backpack.

After 3 days of struggle with all the cleanup and packing, I finally got it to fit. Though the load was still significant. This means I need to finish all my food asap.

I got a full pack of Singapore coffee, 3 pack of instant noodle, different t-shirts. After 8 days of full sun shine, the rain came back (2weeks back.) The weather near the mountains are really harsh.

Xenophobia is still quite bad in Switzerland. They may talk to you in English, but they still "look down" In Singapore, I dont look down on others. After all even the cleaners and garbage man are important. Just because we speak in different language, came from different place, doesnt really make us much different. We can learn from everyone regardless of their race or citizenship.

Lucky I have been treated kindly by many Swiss. And finally I am leaving this apartment. Time flies. Why didnt I seize the day? I ate lunch at mensa, taking in the view even though it was stormy on both side of the bridge.

French student repeatedly stabbed and die in London. Scary.

Helping more people survive and out of poverty may reduce population count? conflicting but possible. interesting, CNN showing eco stuff this week.

ok back to my original idea. a house, provides you with drinking water, cooking stove, a toilet, shower, a place to store stuff, a bed, fridge, electricity, Internet, TV, social connection with the neighbourhood, safety from storms. And like Carl Jung, provide a house for your children's children. (which I wouldnt have for a few weeks, guessed it is good training for living in 3rd world countries)

Suddenly my tour of EU, doesnt seems to be so comfortable after all. It looks tortuous. But if I dont, the next time I come to EU might be like 20 years or maybe never?

UK France Germany leading on Green movement. Interesting.
Swiss recycle papers, cans, glass, and a little of textiles. Buildings with grass rarely seen, only once at Baden, and HSR bike parking shelter.

living in a 4 season country is interesting. From extreme cold to extreme heat all within a single year or sometimes even in a single day.

embarking on Europe

haha, I totally forgotten I have created this blog.

I was fortunate to be able to borrow camping equipments from Felix. I borrowed, backpack, tent, sleeping bag, mattress, cooking utensils, head lights, army knife and emergency blanket.

Then I headed down to Manor and brought a stove 45.9CHF, bluet micro 270, a no brand anti-shock walking stick for 30CHF, water proof matches for 6CHF. Then headed down to Scout Store (www.scoutstore.ch), to purchase a Signalpfeife 3.5CHF, Micropur 20CHF (I think). The store owner speaks excellent English and was very helpful. Next stop was Denner to buy lighters. Went to Migro to buy CV470 gas for 9.8CHF and a travel chain lock for 12.9CHF.

I borrowed tinkey Let's go europe book. With my brother Garmin GPS 60CS, an InterRail 1 month global pass for 983CHF (600euro), the house 70% clean, almost time to go for my trip.

The summer here is really hot, I can feel the sun through my clothes.
